Suffering From Shoulder Pain and Looking For Help In Dublin?

At Foot Focus, we understand that shoulder pain is not always caused by the shoulder itself. The neck, upper back, posture and the way your body moves can all contribute to shoulder problems. Our aim is to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms and provide treatment that supports lasting improvement rather than simply masking discomfort.

Understanding Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints, affecting people of all ages and activity levels. The shoulder is a highly mobile joint, allowing you to reach, lift, throw and carry with ease. However, this flexibility also makes it more susceptible to injury and irritation. Shoulder pain can develop suddenly following an injury or gradually over time due to repetitive movements, poor posture, muscle imbalances or age-related changes.

Common Symptoms

Shoulder pain can vary from a mild ache to sharp pain that limits movement. Some people experience discomfort only during certain activities, while others notice symptoms throughout the day or even while resting.

Common symptoms include:

  • Pain when lifting the arm
  • Stiffness or reduced range of movement
  • Difficulty reaching overhead or behind your back
  • Weakness in the shoulder or arm
  • Pain when carrying shopping or lifting objects
  • Discomfort when lying on the affected side
  • Clicking or catching sensations during movement
  • Pain that spreads into the upper arm or neck

Symptoms may gradually worsen if the underlying cause is left untreated, making everyday activities increasingly difficult.

Our Approach to Shoulder Pain Treatment

Every shoulder condition has its own cause, its own presentation, and its own optimal treatment approach. Our programme reflects that.

Your first appointment is a full comprehensive assessment. We examine your shoulder range of movement, rotator cuff strength, joint stability, and the way the shoulder blade and thoracic spine contribute to shoulder function. We take a detailed history – how the pain started, what makes it worse, what you’ve tried, what your goals are. By the end of the session you will know exactly what is causing your shoulder pain and what the treatment plan looks like.

Manual therapy – including joint mobilisation and soft tissue work – reduces pain and restores movement, particularly in conditions like frozen shoulder and impingement. We combine this with specific exercise prescription targeted at the rotator cuff and the muscles that control the shoulder blade. Good shoulder blade control is fundamental to healthy shoulder function and is very often the missing piece in shoulder rehabilitation.

We build a progressive strengthening programme that restores rotator cuff strength, shoulder blade control, and the full overhead capacity of the shoulder. We progress you back to the activities that matter – whether that’s swimming, golf, tennis, overhead lifting, or simply being able to reach the top shelf without thinking about it. The goal is a shoulder that works reliably without you having to manage or protect it.
